Bartu Kaan
Bartu Kaan’s interest in photography started in his childhood when he accompanied his father, a radiology technician, to the hospital. His passion for travelling led him to photography and then to his inner world.
Graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Communication, he lives and works in Brussels. Between 2019-2021, he participated in the international artist residency at the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles. He then moved to Brussels and continues his education at École de Recherche Graphique Brussels with an interdisciplinary approach. In his works, the artist usually embarks on an adventure with his camera and tries to convey what he thinks, feels and encounters during this adventure. His main areas of interest are nature, human, identity, belonging and the relationships between them.
The artist has participated in numerous exhibitions and workshops in different countries such as France, Belgium, Sweden, Latvia, Romania, Germany and Turkey.
The photographs in the exhibition are selected for Mamut Limited from the series ‘never having both feet off the ground at once’. In this series, the artist walked the Camino de Santiago, a Christian pilgrimage route, and documented his experiences/encounters along the 900 kilometres.
